Let us help you overcome your dental anxiety, so you can have a smile you’ll be proud to show off. You can schedule an appointment today by calling 808-797-3680.

Identify The Source Of Your Fear

The first step to overcoming a fear is often figuring out where and when you developed it. Once you pinpoint where you fear is coming from, you might discover that your fear isn’t really founded in much. Some common sources of dental fear are:

  • Hollywood movies that paint the dentist office as a scary place
  • A bad experience from childhood
  • Fear of the unknown; maybe you’re worried about what oral health issue
  • Maybe you haven’t been to the dentist in several years and that has amplified your fear

Once you unpackage your fear, you may feel a lot less frightened. You can also discuss with your dental office different ways they can help ease your anxiety.

Some activities you can try at home before your dental appointment to relax yourself are:

  • Remind yourself there have been many advances made in dentistry and there is an increased focus on pain-free visits
  • Meditate before your appointment to enter a calming state
  • Arrange for a friend or family member to escort you to your appointment and wait with you
  • Remind yourself of all you have to gain by going to the dentist regularly

A Downtown Dental Group does have the unfair advantage of being located in literal paradise, but our patients will enjoy the view from inside our dental office just as much as the view outside. We’ve decorated the office with comfy chairs and cushy pillows, so you’ll be comfortable while you wait for your appointment. No shifting around in a hard, uncomfortable waiting room chair.

Our staff will treat you with kindness from your first phone call to your good-bye wave on your way out of our office after your dental appointment. A warm smile can go a long way toward making you feel relaxed on your visit to the dentist.

When you call to make your appointment, be sure to tell our team member that you’re dealing with dental anxiety. They’ll book you a longer appointment time. With a longer appointment time Dr. Miyasaki will be able to move at a pace you’re comfortable with and will have plenty of time to explain every step of your procedure to you.

Dr. Miyasaki strongly believe that patients should never feel the needle should their dental treatment require a shot. His makes a promise to every patient that his technique painless. He’s a dentist that really does care about the comfort of his patients.

And the best part is the wonderful experience you have during your first visit is exactly the same wonderful experience you’ll have every time you come in for an appointment. You’ll never have to worry again about a trip to the dentist because you know exactly the level of care you’ll receive from our office.

A Downtown Dental Group also practices sedation dentistry. Our patients can be treated with nitrous oxide or oral sedation. Nitrous oxide is often called laughing gas because it will make you feel warm and happy inside. The effects wear off rather quickly, so treatment won’t disrupt the rest of your day. You’ll inhale the nitrous oxide from a small mask during your procedure.

We also offer oral sedation. Our dental office will prescribe you a pill that you will take 30-minutes before your treatment. The effect of the sedation will make your treatment feel more dream-like. You will still be conscious, just relaxed. It does take some time for oral sedation to wear off, so you’ll want to arrange for a ride home following your treatment.
