How Will You Straighten Your Smile?
- August 1, 2017
Are you the parent of a teenager who is ready to begin orthodontic treatment?
Are you a young adult entering the workforce who wishes your teeth looked straighter than they do today?
Are you an older adult who is dealing with relapse, which is when your teeth start to move back toward their original misaligned positions?
If you live in or near Honolulu, then you should schedule a consultation with one of our dentists, Dr. Wilfred Miyasaki or Dr. David Miyasaki. We offer three great orthodontic options for patients who would like straighter smiles.
What Is Orthodontic Care?
Orthodontics is the area of dentistry that deals with correctly misalignments with teeth. The tools used in orthodontic treatment continue to improve, but the object remains the same. We want to give you or your son or daughter the best smile that you can have.
We do this by changing the position of your teeth gradually. Orthodontics can close gaps between teeth, straighten crooked teeth, and put a little room between crowded teeth. It also can fix overbites, open bites, underbites, and crossbites.
Many people focus on the cosmetic benefits of orthodontic care, and it certainly can help you create a beautiful, straight smile. However, straightening your teeth can have health benefits as well.
When your teeth are straight, you can more easily remove bacteria and plaque with your daily brushing and flossing routine. This also helps during your professional dental cleanings.
Which Treatment Is Right For You?
The best way to find out is to start with a consultation at A Downtown Dental Group. One of our doctors will examine your teeth and your jaw and talk to you about your goals for your smile.
Our doctors can discuss our different treatment options and may even recommend one for your specific situation.
With this in mind, here is a short overview of the ways we can help you transform your smile.
■ Traditional Braces
Brackets and wires have been helping people straighten their teeth for a long, long time. They remain one of the most effective treatments for a wide range of alignment problems. They also work in severe cases.
This treatment can take years to complete, but the end result is a great-looking smile.
Fastbraces are a more advanced version of braces. They use brackets and wires as well, but they can complete their work in a fraction of the time it would take with traditional braces.
Fastbraces uses a unique triangular bracket, which changes how your teeth move.
With traditional braces, your teeth move in stages. During the first stage, your crowns are repositioned, and in the second stage, your roots are realigned. Each stage can take a year or so to complete.
With Fastbraces, your crowns and roots are being repositioned at the same time. This can reduce your treatment to around six months.
In a way, Invisalign is a completely different approach to orthodontics.
With this treatment, you don’t have any brackets or wires. Instead, you wear custom-made clear aligners. Each aligner is meant to be worn for a few weeks at a time. Every time you change aligners, you will be pushing your teeth a little closer to their final positions.
Since the aligners are transparent, this also makes Invisalign our most discreet option for changing your smile.
