There are millions of Americans who wish they could straighten their smile, but three issues almost always get in the way: time, the appearance of treatment, and money. Those are valid concerns, and luckily for you, they are concerns that our Honolulu dental office can easily address.
There is a treatment available in our office, called Fastbraces, that allow you to treat your alignment issues in a fraction of the time of traditional braces. Fastbraces has become an ideal treatment for adults and even many teenagers who want straight teeth in a hurry. How about a better smile in just 3 to 12 months? Give us a call today at 808-797-3680 to schedule a consultation.
While some of us are fortunate enough to have had comprehensive orthodontics as children, not everyone was afforded that same opportunity. Asking a child to spend two years or longer in braces in one thing, but teenagers and most adults don’t want to spend that much time wearing braces.
How Fastbraces Work!
There are various short-term orthodontic options out there, but none of them are like Fastbraces. This revolutionary treatment is both short-term and comprehensive. This system still uses brackets and wires to move the teeth into a better position, but it has some major differences when compared to traditional braces. First off, we use only one wire throughout the entire treatment. The wire is made from a special nickel-titanium and is heat-activated, so it moves with the triangular-shaped brackets during your treatment.
Fastbraces have been used successfully for more than 20 years! Unlike the other short-term orthodontic solutions, that only treat minor alignment problems, Fastbraces can treat nearly every type of orthodontic issues, including:
- Tooth crowding
- Crooked teeth
- Gaps in teeth
Advantages of Fastbraces Vs. Traditional Braces
Perhaps the biggest advantage of Fastbraces is in the name. It’s fast. Traditional metal braces often take more than two years to correct the teeth, and that’s because they work in two different stages. The braces move the crown and root of the tooth at different stages. Fastbraces moves the crown at the root of the tooth all at once, eliminating more than a year off of the treatment time in many cases.
- Less pain involved — People who have traditional orthodontics often complain about the treatment being uncomfortable. Most of that discomfort comes from wire changes. You’ll change out the wires about once every six weeks. Because Fastbraces does not require wire changes, you’ll never have to worry about that.
- Less risk of damaging teeth — Having brackets and wires on your teeth can create a problem with cleaning. With brackets in the way for two years or longer, you might develop tooth decay. But with Fastbraces, that’s no longer an issue because we’ll be wearing the braces for a fraction of the time.
- Less money — Fastbraces works faster than traditional braces and requires fewer visits to the dental office — because of the lack of wire changes. These two things alone make the treatment much cheaper. The average cost of traditional braces is about $6,000. Fastbraces is only a fraction of the cost.
Living with Fastbraces
Fastbraces are a unique form of orthodontic treatment in that they begin to move the root immediately. Most orthodontic systems take some time before you see the benefits. It’s gratifying to offer a treatment that can benefit patients so quickly. Just after a few short weeks — or even sooner — people start to see results.
Because Fastbraces are still technically braces, you’ll still have some of the same food limitations, but for a shorter period of time. Foods like corn, popcorn, or gum are difficult to eat and can cause problems with the braces, so it’s best to avoid these when possible. Fastbraces is not only different when it comes to the treatment, but the after treatment is different as well.
Most orthodontists or general dentists require you to wear a retainer 24/7 after having braces. The retainer helps you maintain that perfect, straight smile. Wearing a retainer 24/7 can be as big as a hassle as having braces. And in many cases, the patient neglects to wear the retainer for the entire day, causing their teeth to slip out of alignment. With Fastbraces, the after treatment is also faster. You’ll only need to wear a retainer for about 15 to 20 minutes a day.
